Lihong Wang, Bren Professor of Medical Engineering and Electrical Engineering; Andrew and Peggy Cherng Medical Engineering Leadership Chair; Executive Officer for Medical Engineering, is featured in a special issue of the Journal of Biomedical Optics. This special issue honors Professor Wang's contributions to advancing the field of biomedical optics.
Professor Wang's pioneering research in the field includes the development of biomedical photoacoustic imaging, Monte Carlo modeling of photon transport in biological tissues, compressed ultrafast photography, and a new wavefront shaping technique to better focus light deep into biological tissue.
Wang received his PhD in electrical engineering from Rice University in 1991, and his BS and MS degrees in optics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Along with his many awards, Wang is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering.
